There are those who find it troubling that there are no historical sources documenting the miracle that occurred after the desecration of the Second Temple, when the single container of oil that should have fueled the eternal flame for one day instead lasted for eight days. Chaim Seidler-Feller elevates the eternal nature of the spiritual lessons of Chanukah above the significance of the the oil and of the military victory of the Maccabees.
Chaim Seidler-Feller is in his 33rd year as Director of Hillel at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was ordained at Yeshiva University where he also earned a Masters Degree in Rabbinic Literature. He has taught Kabbalah and Talmud at the University of Judaism, is a Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute for Advanced Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, and is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Wilstein Institute for Social Policy. He is also a member of the faculty of the Wexner Heritage Foundation and is a Lehman Faculty Fellow at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute.
